It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, Doris Doreen Aunger in her 104th year. Doris was born in Breconshire, Wales the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley George Palmer. During the war, Doris served with the V.A.D. Volunteer Aid Detachment, the Red Cross and St. John in Brecon.
Doris met Bruce Edward Aunger while he was serving for the Canadian Armed Forces in Wales and they married on August 11, 1945. They settled in Stettler and later in Innisfail. Doris was organist and choir leader at St. Mark’s church for many years. She also served as Regent and other offices of the Imperial Order of the Daughter’s of the Empire (IODE) and standard bearer for the provincial chapter.
Doris is survived by her sons Bruce (Penny) and their sons Geoffrey and Russell (Michele), Mac (Mary) and their daughters Jennifer (Randy), Gwendolen (Neil), Jacqueline (Carlos) and Michelle (David). Doris is also survived by twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is survived by one brother Thomas Palmer and his wife Patricia and their two children: Dyfed and Dwynwen (Alex) and their two children. Doris was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and granddaughter-in-law Janine (Geoffrey’s wife). The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Collegiate and Autumn Glen (later Autumn Grove) for the years of kind and compassionate care of Doris.
