Smart Farm tour showcases the future of pasture management

Sep 20, 2024 | 3:07 PM

The Grey Wooded Forage Association (GWFA) and Olds College are hosting a Technology and Forages Field Day, an opportunity to witness the future of pasture management first hand through an interactive field day.

On September 26, attendees will meet at the Madden Community Centre and then be bussed to Pitstra Farm. The day begins at 9 a.m. and is expected to wrap up by 4 p.m.

Laio Sobrinho, Research Manager, and Brianna Gratton, Techgronomist, at Olds College will showcase the various technologies at the Smart Farm, including the rising plate meter, water level sensors, electric fence monitors, and a nitrate meter. They will explain how these tools can be used to improve pasture management and support rotational grazing practices.

At Pitstra Farm, attendees will get a field tour to see the gadgets in action. In the afternoon, there will be research presentations including Nutrition Composition of Alberta Pastures Research by Abby Redman, and Specialty Forages by Grant Lastiwka.
