1946 ~ Siegfried (Zeke) Hoelzl ~ 2024 "He was a jack of all trades and could fix or ‘MacGyver” anything. He was so very proud of the home he built for his family in James River. Zeke will always be loved and missed by his family and many friends."

In the early morning hours of September 5, 2024 Siegfried (Zeke) Hoelzl passed away peacefully from cancer at the age of 77. Zeke leaves behind to mourn him; his loving wife Sheila Dunn, his chosen daughter Carrie Murray of Leduc, AB, his chosen son Kevin Dunn (Jana) of Yellowknife NT, and grandchildren Aaron, Brandon, Aisling, Lochlan, Kezia, Isabel, Micah and several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Sebastian Hoelzl, his brother Sebastian and sisters Anne, Elfrieda and Ingrid, as well as chosen sons Stephen and Micheal Dunn. Zeke was born in Breitenberg, Germany and moved to Canada in 1950 where his family settled in the Lethbridge area. The family later moved to the Forest Lawn Community of Calgary, AB here he completed his formal education. Zeke was very active within the Catholic Church during his school years. Upon graduation he joined the Royal Canadian Navy for five years, serving onboard the HMCS Whitehorse and then spend five years as a firefighter with the Calgary Fire Department. Zeke found his calling when he joined Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd., starting out as an equipment operator and progressing through the organization as a foreman, superintendent, manager and ultimately retiring in 2005 as president, Volker Stevin NWT Ltd. Zeke was very passionate about his work with Volker Stevin and enjoyed the last 20 plus years of his career working in Yellowknife NT. He and Sheila lived at Madeline Lake until retirement and then moved to Cochrane, AB and ultimately to James River Bridge, AB. Zeke was a very private and independent man. His family meant everything to him, and he loved his dogs and horses. Never one to be bored Zeke enjoyed his motorcycles, trucks, cars, snowmobiles and quads – pretty much anything with a motor. He was a jack of all trades and could fix or ‘MacGyver” anything. He was so very proud of the home he built for his family in James River. Zeke will always be loved and missed by his family and many friends. Perhaps we can raise a glass to this incredible guy on September 25th which would have been his 78th birthday.
