Mr. Mark Francis Conrad, of Stettler, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the age of 69 years. He succumbed to a hard-fought battle with cancer, in which he defied the odds. Mark was born and raised in Kimberley, British Columbia, where he enjoyed growing up, actively participating in camping, sports, skiing, rugby, track field, golf, and playing cards with many of his friends. After high school he went to S.A.I.T in Calgary, where Mark completed his Telecommunication Engineering Degree. After he graduated, he started at AGT, which later became TELUS, working and enjoying different roles. He eventually chose management, and worked in Calgary and Edmonton, then eventually found Stettler. Mark met his wife, Pat, in 1976, they were married in 1980, and later, they welcomed their two children, Andrea and Mathew, where the family have lived in Stettler for the past thirty years. Many knew him for his quick, dry humor, as well as his dedicated loyalty to his family and friends. Continuing to camp, they ventured out as often as they could with family, classmates and good friends they met over the years. Mark was a huge Elton John and Billie Joel fan. He was also a huge NFL football fan, and he always followed our local football teams. Mark loved being involved in all Andrea and Mathews sports activities, even long after Mathew and his friends graduated, and he often volunteered whenever he could to support his community. Mark is lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia of forty-four years; his daughter, Andrea (Craig); his son, Mathew (Nichole); his granddaughters, Maelynn and Teagan; his grandsons, Frank, Joshua and Vince; his sister, Cindy (Charles); and his niece, Meagan. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Vilma Conrad, of Kimberley British Columbia, and Jack and Theresa Fowler (Pate, O’Brien). A special thank you to Dr. Vogel and staff, Dr J. Vermeulen and staff, Dr Lombard, Post Stettler, the emergency doctors and all the health professionals in Stettler, the Red Deer Cancer Clinic, along with the neurosurgeons, and the cancer care he received over the past four years.
