It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Kenneth ‘Ken’ Raymond Weik at the Red Deer Hospice, with his family by his side, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the age of 75 years. Ken will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Donna; his sons, Greg and Danny (Melissa); and his grandchildren, Avery, Emerson and Taylor. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Audrey (Norm); his brothers, Doug and Rod (Deneen) of Red Deer; his mother-in-law, Jean Winter; and his brothers-in-law, Keith (Connie) and Bill (Brenda). Ken was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy in 1951, his mother, Mary in 1982, his father, Alf in 2015, his father-in-law, Dan Winter in 2005, and his sister-in-law, Pat Walker in 2008. Ken was born on July 9, 1949, in Bassano and from age four he was raised in Hanna. Ken graduated High School in Hanna and then came to Red Deer, where he attended LTCHS for one semester in order to play basketball. While in Red Deer, he secured a lifelong career with AGT/Telus. Ken met the love of his life, Donna and they were married on August 25, 1972. Outside of their family life, they enjoyed many years of playing ball, curling and golfing, while forging many lasting friendships along the way. In March of 1976, Greg was born, followed by Danny, in August 1978. Family life was extremely important to Ken. He focused his time with his family, as well as treating his friends like family. Many holiday celebrations were hosted with Ken as the Patriarch of the family. He offered his wisdom and advice, which was often called upon and appreciated.
After a fulfilling career with Telus, Ken retired in 2003 and contracted for another five years, fully retiring in 2008. Enjoying retirement, Ken and Donna were snowbirds, wintering in Phoenix, resulting in lifelong friendships. The grandchildren could not have asked for a more attentive and loving Grandpa. It was amazing for Ken and Donna to watch their grandchildren play hockey, lacrosse, ringette, basketball, baseball, volleyball, school activities and theatre performances. Ken enjoyed cooking pounds of bacon on the BBQ for Sunday brunch and all holidays were special moments. Ken will be missed as a husband, son-in-law, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A Life Well Lived.
