2025 Season

Sylvan Lake Gulls announce 19U Prep Team

Aug 8, 2024 | 3:22 PM

The Sylvan Lake Gulls have announced the creation of a Gulls 19U Prep Team for the 2025 summer baseball season.

Team officials say the Gulls will be collaborating with St. Joseph High School Falcon Ball Academy of the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Division with the goal of creating an elite level 19U summer team that will be playing out of Gulls Field at Pogadl Park starting in 2025.

The collaboration with St Joe’s will include Gulls GM & Head Coach Jason Chatwood. Team officials say he will add the management of the Gulls 19U Prep Team to his coaching resume, which also includes being the Head Coach of the St Joe’s Academy. Chatwood will be joined by fellow St Joe’s Falcon, Scott Murray, as a Manager for the team. The full coaching staff will be announced at a later date, officials point out.

When the Sylvan Lake Gulls first announced their plans to bring a Western Canadian Baseball League team to Sylvan Lake in 2019, team officials noted they wanted to help develop the game of baseball in central Alberta.

“We feel like the partnership with St Joe’s in this venture is another big step forward towards that vision, and strengthens both organizations,” explains Aqil Samuel, President and COO, Sylvan Lake Gulls, in a statement released Thursday. “The team will provide an opportunity for high school and gap year aged athletes to further develop their baseball growth through high level coaching, training, and competition. This competition will include other 19U Summer teams in Alberta, Western Canada, and the Pacific Northwest United States in a tournament and exhibition schedule.”
