It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Gunhild “Syneva” Fransiska Baltimore (Holmberg) on Friday, July 26, 2024 after a lengthy illness at 90 years old. Syneva was born in Lac La Biche, Alberta on April 23, 1934 to Svante and Gunhild Holmberg. She leaves to mourn; her husband Elmer Wilson Baltimore of 69 years, just 33 days short of their 70th wedding anniversary, and their three children:
Patricia Anne (David) Halliday, daughters Tanya (Justin) and their sons, Jake and Ben, son Wes (Cortnie) and their daughters Ryen and Alex, Amanda (Bob) Chetcuti, sons, Nic and Mason, Tyler (Jennifer), children Maxwell and Makenzie. Kelly Wilson (Donna) Baltimore and children Lindsey (Justin) Baltimore, Matthew (Isabelle) Baltimore, children Thomas, Genevieve and Vincent, Amy Jared) George, sons Finley and Austin, and Chelsea and daughter Jailynn.
Syneva Lorene (Russell) Cook and children Steven (Caitlin) Cook, Patrick (Brittany) Cook and son Carver, Colin (Christine) Cook and son Rory, and Blair Cook. She also leaves to mourn brother Erik, sisters Anne, Karin and Ruby, and several nieces and nephews.
Syneva was a talented painter starting with watercolors when she was a teenager and progressing to painting with oils after marriage, her works of art grace the walls of her children and grandchildren alike. She was a self-taught seamstress making quilts, frapes, table covering and clothing for herself, her children and grandchildren. She became an excellent cook and accumulated about two dozen cookbooks plus recipes from magazines and the internet that Elmer had to print off for her. She was an active member of the Norwegian Laft Hus Society, where she became an accomplished Rosemäling artist.
Syneva had a wicked sense of humor, was very intelligent and prided herself on being smartly dressed and well turned out. However, what the family will remember most about Syneva is her deep abiding love and support, and how she taught the value of family and love from her example. She will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life for Syneva will be held at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
