Bowden annexation proposal makes headway in county council
Red Deer County council has unanimously moved to accept a report outlining the details and negotiations around annexing 41.41 hectares of land from the County in the Town of Bowden.
The proposed annexation presents the potential for economic development opportunities within the Town and is expected to allow for non-residential tax revenue to be collected. The intended use of the land is to be primarily industrial and commercial with a small portion being dedicated to a public utility lot and storm water pond.
The landowner of the proposed annexation has stated an interest in pursuing development in the area and has committed to paying all costs associated with expanding infrastructure to the area, which should result in no costs getting passed to landowners in the Town.
Red Deer County received a Notice of Intent to Annex Lands from the Town of Bowden on November 8, 2023. On February 20, 2024, county council approved the proposed annexation in principle, with consideration to the process for negotiation and consultation as presented in the notice.
