Community dishes up and dishes out for Kidney Foundation
A few hundred people showed up to the Big 105 and 106.7 Rewind Radio’s Annual Chili Cook-Off and fundraiser Thursday, with the Michalsky Farm named as the Best Tasting Chili winner for their delectable recipe.
“They had some Guinness in there, which is always a swayer for the judges, but they had a really nice hot Italian sausage this year that I thought really put it over the top,” said Matt Geddes, cook-off judge and host of The Morning Rewind on 106.7, “but it’s so hard, they’re all delicious chilis.”
For the second year in a row, the Central Alberta Social Gaps Initiative Corp. won Most Unique Ingredient, this time for their dessert-style chili, a first for the event. The dish included a black bean brownie base with a fruit salsa, and a chocolate mole sauce.
“It was a really Mexican, spicy, chili-inspired dish and we’ve never had anyone do a dessert chili before, so it definitely set itself apart with that. We had a ton of people that ate it last and really enjoyed it,” he said.
