Suspect charged in gunfire exchange with Alberta RCMP
A suspect that allegedly fired at police while trying to evade arrest in an incident that occurred on June 22, 2024, has been charged with multiple offences.
At 11:40 p.m. on the day of the incident, Alberta RCMP, Calgary Police Service, and RCMP from Didsbury and Olds coordinated to arrest the suspect, who had previously fled from police in a separate incident. Together, they deployed a tire deflation device and successfully disabled the suspect’s vehicle on the QE II Highway near Highway 581.
Mounties say there was then an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and police, before they were able to speak to the suspect and deescalate the situation. The suspect then surrendered. There were no injuries to either party.
As a result of the investigation by the Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section and Calgary Police Service, the suspect, a 34-year-old Calgary resident, was charged with the following offences:
