Gull’s Nathan Flewelling drafted by Tampa Bay Rays
A central Alberta baseball player is on his way to the Major Leagues.
Nathan Flewelling, 17, of Innisfail, was the 94th pick overall, taken in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Flewelling most recently suited up for the Sylvan Lake Gulls of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) this season.
The 6’2”, 200-pound catcher appeared in 20 games for the Gulls so far this season, posting a 0.329 batting average, 70 at-bats, 21 runs, 23 hits, 5 home runs, and 19 RBIs.
Flewelling was previously part of St. Joseph High School’s Baseball/Softball Academy, and also played Red Deer Minor Baseball growing up.
