“FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS”
In the pre-dawn hours of June 5, with Rita by his side, Ken Collier passed away peacefully.
Ken was born on March 28, 1946, in Castor to John and Pearl Collier. His father John passed away when Ken was 7-year-old and Pearl later married Wilfurd Couturier, who was the wonderful stepfather Pearl has chosen as Ken’s new dad. The family spent Kens younger years farming in the Castor, Coronation area and later moved to town when Ken discovered he was not a farmer. Ken later moved to Red Deer for work where he met and married Rita Doyle in 1969. Most of both of their working careers were spent working at Telus. Many of their younger years were devoted to camping and fishing. They spent many winter holidays in Maui, Mexico and later winters in Palm Springs. His greatest summer pleasure in life was going to the Sundre Golf Course to golf. He spent many happy times there golfing with our many friends. The greatest worry he had this spring was not being able to get up the stairs to the 19th hole but mentally he was working on a solution. Ken was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2005 and experienced many years of adverse health compounded by neuropathy affecting his mobility. His health continued a decline in the fall of 2023. He is survived by his wife Rita of 55 years; sister Doris O’Connor of Wetaskiwin; Rita sister Sherri Doyle of Red Deer, Betty Grady of Whitehorse and Luanne Michaels of Kentucky and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of life will be held on July 8, 2024, at the Sundre Golf Club (Banquet Room) at 2:00 p.m. It will be an informal/casual event.
