Lynn Calvert
Lynn Mary Calvert (Underwood) age 69 passed away on 20 May, 2024 at the Red Deer Hospice Centre. Lynn was born in Red Deer and spent her childhood years on the family farm near Pine Lake. She attended River Glen Elementary School and graduated from Lindsay Thurber High School in 1973.
Upon graduation Lynn worked at the Red Deer Regional Hospital in the admitting department. She remained there until 1977 at which time she joined the RCMP as a civilian member. Lynn’s first posting was in the telecommunications unit at Red Deer Sub/Division headquarters. Here she processed and dispatched complaints all the while maintaining close watch over on-duty officers.
In 1978, Lynn met Peter, a constable stationed at Red Deer Detachment. Their relationship flourished and they married 7 Sept 1979. Lynn and Peter transferred regularly over the next 35 years spending time in Alberta and BC. Along the way they added three children, Erin (Antony), Andrew (Jen), Adam and four grandchildren, Parker, Halle, Nolan, Nora to their family. Although family was always Lynn’s priority, she did return to the RCMP, dispatching at Peace River OCC, Chilliwack OCC and two additional tours at Red Deer.
Lynn’s Christian faith was the central and stabilizing part of her life. It was a faith endeared to her by her parents and grandparents. It was a faith which her sought to nourish her children and grandchildren with and impart to those she met. Lynn greatly loved and enjoyed employing her time and energy for her family. The hours spent sewing costumes, cooking meals, baking cinnamon buns for her grandchildren, tending her gardens and maintaining her home she considered to be the best hours of her life.
Lynn was predeceased by her parents John (Jack) and Mary Underwood of Red Deer. She is survived by her immediate family along with her two older brothers Dale and Clifford (Margo) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lynn asked that her appreciation and gratitude be expressed for the compassion and exceptional care provided by Drs Maureen McCall and Kamal Daniel, nurses, care givers, staff and volunteers at the Red Deer Hospice. She also thanks her family physician Dr. Donovan Stearn, her oncologist Dr. Doreen Ezeife and the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, Calgary for the excellent management of her care and treatment.
Lynn would ask that in lieu of flowers or gifts donations be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society.
A memorial service for Lynn will be held at Crossroads Community Church, Red Deer, Alta. on Friday, 7 June, 2024 at 10:30 am.
