Neil Henry Wettlaufer, 65, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 13, 2024.
Neil is predeceased by his parents, Willard and Erna Wettlaufer, and is survived by his wife of 28 years, Tonya Wettlaufer; siblings Mark and Shelly; daughters Meaghan (Devun), Josephine (Justin), Kaitlynn (Hafid); and grandchildren Zia and Malik; along with many other family and friends.
Neil will be remembered for his interesting sense of humor and for his ability to make people laugh. Some of his favorite shows to quote included Family Guy, Smokey and the Bandit, and Tommy Boy. He was also a man of many interests and talents. In his earlier years, he obtained his pilot’s license to fly small aircrafts and helped to build the Redeemer Church in Didsbury. He also had a passion for trains. So much so that he spent many hours reading about them and building model train sets with his brother, daughters, and grandchildren. Later in life, Neil developed an interest in bagpipes and joined the Red Deer Legion Pipe Band with two of his daughters. While in the band, they played together in various performances around Central Alberta. Finally, one of Neil’s greatest interests was in being a grandfather where he spent many hours playing with and spoiling his grandchildren.
An internments service will be held at the Didsbury Cemetery (1101 18 St, Didsbury, AB T0M 0W0) May 31, 2024, at 12:00 pm. Followed by a Memorial Service to celebrate Neil’s life at the Didsbury Redeemer Church (1500 23 St, Didsbury, AB T0M 0W0) on May 31, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Condolences to Neil’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please put “Wettlaufer” in the subject line.
