Albert Michael Joseph Pruss passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, surrounded by his family at Red Deer Regional Hospital. He was born on November 26, 1939, at 5:30 am, to Caroline and Michael Pruss, near the village of Saint Michael, Alberta.
Albert had many interests, including sports, business, and the stock market. Over a span of more than four decades, he was involved as co-owner of Border Paving, where he made significant contributions to the business, while also supporting his community by sponsoring local sports teams and engaging regularly in community initiatives. Upon retirement on his 60th birthday, Albert dedicated his time to his family, investments, and numerous real estate ventures. At home, Albert found joy in watching his prized thoroughbreds compete across the country, however, he also had a passion for exploring his favourite destinations. Winters meant escaping to Phoenix, Arizona, where he could experience great restaurants, the thrill of the race tracks, and casinos. His love for travel also took him and his family to destinations such as Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Cabo San Lucas, where they created lasting memories. Albert’s talent for organising unforgettable family gatherings, whether it was a vacation or a family dinner, meant these occasions were always filled with love, laughter, and fun times for everyone involved.
Albert’s dedication did not stop with his work or adventures; he always valued education highly and encouraged his family to as well. Watching his grandchildren succeed brought him endless pride and happiness.
Albert was preceded in death by his father, Michael Pruss; mother, Caroline Kula; stepfather, Antonio Kula; and brother, John Kula. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Peter Kula, Bernard (Bev) Kula, and Greg Kula; former wife, Donna Pruss; daughter, Carmen Pruss; and son, Mike (Edith) Pruss. Albert also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Justin (Zoë) Pruss, Braden Pruss, Allan Pruss, Michael Pruss, and Evan Pruss, as well as two great-grandchildren, Cale and Maya Pruss.
The memorial service for Albert will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Eventide Funeral Home, Red Deer. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff of Unit 21 and Unit 32 at Red Deer Regional Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in the form of contributions to the Red Deer Hospice Society. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
