1959 ~ Ted Hunter ~ 2024 "Most recently on one of his many hospital stays at Red Deer, a nurse remembered him from the days when he would play crib with the patients. Ted loved crib and once again showed his resilience that you can still make someone else’s life more meaningful."

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Ted Hunter wish to announce his passing Ted was born into a loving family on October 11, 1959, and left this world for a better place in the early morning hours of Monday, April 1, 2024 at the age of 64 years. Fitting that a jokester like Ted would pass away on a day when practical jokes abound.
Ted’s life was not an easy one, but he faced his challenges with the saying “it is what it is”. His life was forever changed when he fell from a service rig at twenty-six years old, after six weeks in a coma he awoke with great gratitude saying, “I’m just glad to be alive”. Though he had suffered a traumatic brain injury, after many months in rehab at Wascana Center in Regina, Saskatchewan, he was once again able to walk, talk, and live independently in his own home. Ted spent many hours giving back by volunteering at the Wascana Center. One of his favorite times was when he would accompany his patient to a Saskatchewan Roughrider Game. Ted loved his Riders! In 2008, Ted made the move to Innisfail, Alberta to be closer to his brother. Once he moved, he volunteered at the Innisfail Hospital. Most recently on one of his many hospital stays at Red Deer, a nurse remembered him from the days when he would play crib with the patients. Ted loved crib and once again showed his resilience that you can still make someone else’s life more meaningful. We will really miss his quirky sense of humour. Ted also loved his Tim Horton’s coffee and as a family, we joked about him having shares in the company. Before that it was Robin’s Donuts in Regina. Ted was welcomed into the Innisfail Alliance Church, where he made many new friends, which was very apparent at his 50 birthday celebration a year after he had moved there. Many of his church family and coffee acquaintances stopped in to wish many more years of happiness. Ted felt blessed in 1988 when he was able to travel to Germany and France, along with his brother and the Innisfail Bantam 88, where Ted had the privilege of being a flag bearer. Then came many more holidays to sunny Arizona to spend time with his parents, sisters and their husbands. He was also able to travel to Mexico as well.
Ted Loved his little pooch, London, and it was hard for him to give him up, but as Ted’s health declined, he had to enter long term care in the midst of a pandemic. Ted was happy to know that a good home was found for London. He continued to enjoy watching his Riders play, as well as playing many games of crib. Ted left this world to meet up with his parents, Clarence and Frances Hunter, whom we are positive were waiting with open arms along with other family and friends. Rest in Peace Ted.
The family would like to thank Tom and Cheryl for their devotion to Ted these past few years, we also wish to thank the many caregivers and doctors who have cared for Ted over the years at Sunset Manor and the fourth floor care givers at Taylor View Towers, as well as Dr. Miller for the many years of care prior to his retirement. Ted will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his sisters, Laurie (Gerry) Chouinard and Susanne (Murray) Hunter Wagner, his brother, Tom (Cheryl) Hunter, his nieces, nephews and their spouses, Geraldine (Brent) Dyck, Tom (Melodie) Chouinard, Naomi (Ryan) Bregenser, Greg (Daisy De Los Santos) Chouinard. Jamie (Tricia) Hunter, Robert (Jennifer) Hunter as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
