It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Ted St. Clare Thomas, surrounded by his family, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the age of 75 years. Ted was born at the Eckville Hospital, Eckville, Alberta on June 3, 1948, to Clare and Pat Thomas. He attended all his schooling in Eckville and even though he didn’t love school, he loved to read. His favourites were Science Fiction and Louis L’Amour Westerns. He also enjoyed listening to country music on the radio. At the age of seventeen, he headed to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, and joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was then posted to Montreal, and his final Navy years were at Gloucester, Ontario. While in Ottawa, he met his future wife, Claudia. They were married in the fall of 1968. Their oldest son, Michael, was born in Ottawa in 1969. In 1970, Ted and his family returned to Eckville, and their second son, Jason, was born in 1972. From the time of his return, until he retired, Ted was a Fuel Truck driver for ESSO, and then, UFA. One of his favourite weekend pastimes was going for drives with Claudia on the weekends. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Claudia; his sons, Michael (Loree), and Jason (Janay); his grandchildren, Cody Thomas, Dylan Thomas (Tayiah), Ethan Thomas and Kassandra Tennant; as well as his nephew, Steven (Linda) Kind; his great niece, Sarah Kind; his niece, Kathleen Thomas; and his great nephew, Nathan Van Someren. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Clare and Pat Thomas; his in-laws, Claude and Ellen White; his uncles, Percy and Alfred Thubron; his sisters, Sharon Thomas, Linda Kind, and her husband, Evan Kind; as well as his great nephew and niece, Joe and Alexis Van Someren. A Family Gathering will take place later this spring. We would like to thank the Sylvan Lake Ambulance, the Eckville Fire Department, and the staff in the Emergency Department, and the Palliative Care Unit at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. In lieu of flowers or gifts, if desired, Memorial Donations in Ted’s honor may be made directly to the Breakfast Programs at either the Eckville Elementary School, or the Eckville High School.
“Love is a moment of stillness that sometimes a word can shatter to pieces.
Or love can be a thing that endures, a rich, deep current flowing unending through the years.”
