Hunting Hills’ 24-hour Bike-A-Thon for mental health awareness returning for eighth year

Feb 21, 2024 | 4:53 PM

The Hunting Hills High School’s 24-hour Bike-A-Thon is returning this April for its eighth year.

The bi-annual event, running from 12 p.m. on April 25 to 12 p.m. April 26, raises awareness and funds for mental health.

“It’s all about reconnecting as a school community but also discovering our purpose with one another and why we’re on those bikes,” said Alex Pelle, Student Vice-President at Hunting Hills.

The event was created in 2013 by a group of students who lost a few of their friends to mental health struggles.

School officials said the last event in 2022 was a huge success, with over 80 teams participating and each team consisting of four to six students. When staff and students were not biking, they were participating in activities like dodgeball, glow dance, karaoke, relaxation rooms, and more.

Pelle says they hope to hit 75 teams this year, with five to eight people per team.

Student registration forms can be picked up at the main office and are due March 1, signed by parents. Fundraising packages can then be picked up on March 5 and are due April 12.

Those wishing to donate or sponsor the event can contact the school at 403-342-6655.
