With his beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Donna by his side, the world became a bit duller when Mr. Terrence Patrick ‘Terry’ Lancaster passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 72 years. His family and many friends will remember Terry’s quick wit, snarky sarcasm, and enjoyment of a good debate…with him usually taking the opposite side, of everyone else in the room, just to keep it interesting. His grandchildren will especially remember Papa T’s deep, calm baritone voice as he read them countless stories, sometimes over the computer, as they weren’t always close in distance. Cooking was his passion, and he was very good at it, even though his lasagnas took two grown men to lift from the oven. He also enjoyed baking, and his muffins were always a delightful surprise, with no two batches ever being the same. Making cookies with his grandchildren was a favorite pastime when they visited. Terry loved to travel, and he and Donna put thousands of kilometers on their various vehicles over the years. He most enjoyed the roads less travelled, which often led to hours of entertaining tales describing various adventures, as often seen very differently through the eyes of him and Donna. Terry loved Canada’s Arctic, where he spent many years, first working for The Northern Store (formerly The Hudson Bay Company) in the Eastern Arctic, now known as Nunavut, and later working with the Government of the Northwest Territories in Inuvik and Yellowknife. After retiring, Terry made the leap and moved to Donna’s home province of Nova Scotia where they reconnected with old friends, made many new close friends, and spent time enjoying family. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, they moved to Alberta, to be closer to Terry’s three children and grandchildren. The boy from Saskatchewan had finally come home to the prairies. Terry will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Donna, his children, Patrick (Erin), Graeme, and Gwyneth (Ray); his stepchildren, Larry and Charlene (Mark), and his six grandchildren, to whom he was their much loved “Papa T”, Connor, Ruby, Ian, Layla, Roarke, and Zachary. Terry will also be sadly missed by his sister, Jane and his brother, Paul (Suzanne); his brothers-in-law, Cliff (Linda), Bob (Debbie), and Tim (Darlene); and his sisters-in-law, Doris, and Joan (Ken). Terry was predeceased by parents, Harold and Ethel, and his brother, Gerry. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the teams of doctors, nurses, and support staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for their care and support over the last two months. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
