Gwen Splett 1966 ~ 2024. Gwendolyn Margaret Toperosky, age 57, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. She was born in Dauphin, Manitoba to Edward Toperosky and Helen Williams, as the second oldest of four children. Among her many accomplishments, Gwen graduated from Red Deer College as a General Accountant, as a Dental Assistant from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and graduated and taught as a Montessori teacher. Over the years she worked as a dental assistant, in accounting, in equine massage, and owned several businesses over the course of her life. Gwen was a passionate singer, traveller, and lover of the arts. She was an incredibly loving mother. Her life was rich in diverse community wherever she went, and she loved sharing stories with all of her amazing friends and family. Gwen was a deeply spiritual person who exemplified kindness and generosity, and blazed her own path in life while keeping one foot planted in the cosmos. In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, “Through my love for you, I want to express my love for the whole cosmos, the whole of humanity, and all beings. By living with you, I want to learn to love everyone and all species. If I succeed in loving you, I will be able to love everyone and all species on Earth… This is the real message of love.” We will be touched by her sweetness, inspired by her hope, and invigorated by her tenacity for the rest of our lives. Gwen leaves behind her child Carly Splett, her Mother Helen and John Williams, Brother Daniel and Laurie Toperosky, Sister Tammy and Thomas Hwang, Niece Alyssa and Nephews Austin, Karsen and Louis. She is predeceased by her father Edward and brother Glenn Toperosky. A private celebration of Gwen’s life will be arranged by her daughter, and held at a later date of Carly’s choosing for Gwen’s close family and friends.
