It is with profound sadness that the family of Katie Rae Betemps of Red Deer, Alberta, announce her sudden passing at her home, of natural causes, on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the young age of 16 years. Katie was born in Red Deer, Alberta on May 12, 2007, the daughter of Julia Smears and Shawn Betemps. Katie was known for her love of baking, travelling, everything pink, Taylor Swift songs on repeat, long walks, and a huge love for Tim Hortons and Starbucks Coffee. Katie was always up for an adventure, big or small; from car rides to walks, a trip to the mountains, a coffee date, or a trip to Paris. She enjoyed summers at the lake with her grandparents and family. She dreamed of visiting Los Angeles, London and returning to Paris one day. While she will never get the chance to do those things now, we hope her friends and family will take her with them in spirit wherever they go. Katie will always be remembered for her infectious smile, adorable dimples, her fits of giggles and her kind and caring soul. Katie will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Julia Smears (Brady); her father, Shawn (Tasha) Betemps; her sister, Jena; her brother, Tyson; her step brother, Odin; along with her chosen sister, Emily Hamel; her step sister, Kayla; her step brothers, Brandon and Ryder; her grandparents, Reg and Wanita Smears of Choiceland, Saskatchewan; her great grandma, Beverly Smears of Choiceland, Saskatchewan; her uncle, Shawn (Ashley) Smears; her cousins, Payten, Reid, Raynor and Rownan of Edmonton, Alberta; her grandparents, Ray and Leona Betemps of Battleford, Saskatchewan; her uncle, Ryan (Val) Betemps; and her cousins, Cole and Eric of Warman, Saskatchewan.
