Miss Barbara ‘Barb’ Jean Sagan of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the age of 49 years. Barb was born on January 8, 1975, at Red Deer, Alberta to Nick and Marg Sagan. Despite being born with a mental disability, she functioned independently; graduating in 1994 from Olds Horizon School for the Mentally Challenged. She enjoyed sports, especially watching her brother in early years playing hockey, she loved watching the Red Deer Rebels, and was an avid Oiler’s fan. She loved to swim, read the newspaper daily and watch certain TV shows. Barb loved country music, had a few favourite artists and a vast collection of CDs. She volunteered at the Lending Cupboard, Ronald McDonald House and various other agencies. Over the past eight years, she has lived in a Group Home run by Etana, where she received wonderful care, while slowly battling dementia. Barb will be lovingly remembered by her mother and stepfather, Marg and Wes Procyshen of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan; her brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Monica Sagan; her nieces and nephew, Cali, Ella and Noah Sagan, all of Red Deer, Alberta, as well as numerous other family members and dear friends. Barb was predeceased by her father, Nick in 2008; and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.
