Cold weather affecting local schools and school bus service

Due to the extreme cold warnings today, Monday, Jan 15, 2024, the following school bus service has been canceled for the Red Deer Catholic School Division.

ALL RURAL (Red Deer County, Sylvan Lake, Olds, Rocky Mountain House) school buses are canceled but the schools are open.

Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Olds, Innisfail and Rocky Mountain House Rural School Buses are canceled, however the schools are open.

Meantime, at Red Deer Public Schools, upon arrival this morning, it was discovered that a water line was broken and there is no water at Central Middle School. Officials have learned that the repairs may take as long as three hours. As a result, the school will close today so that the break can be fixed.

For those students who rely on bussing, Prairie Bus Lines and Red Deer City Transit have confirmed they will pick up students immediately. Officials ask that parents who drive their children arrange to have them picked up as soon as possible.
