The family of Mrs. Annie McQuiston (nee Couchman) are sad to announce her passing in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the grand age of 98 years. Annie was born in Albert Park, Calgary, Alberta on March 1, 1925. She met her future husband, Fred McQuiston on a blind date and they were married on October 13, 1950. She welcomed her stepson, Jim into the family and gave him three siblings, Bonnie Jean, Grant, and Myra. Longing for the country life, Fred left the CPR and their nice modern home in Calgary and moved his family to an old log shack on a farm, in the Caroline area. Annie lived on the farm for forty-four years. She was born a city girl and then embraced country and farm life. Fred and Annie worked very hard at being beekeepers and raising cattle and sheep. She cooked many delicious meals of wild meat and fowl and welcomed numerous guests to her table. Mom helped us have a good life on the farm. Mom was always a people person and made many good friends. She enjoyed working at Household Finance in Calgary and the Caroline Post Office for fifteen years. Annie had a talent for organization and was very particular about her home, “everything in its place” may have been her motto. She has been known to tidy the peanut butter jar! In their later years, Fred and Annie travelled extensively. They made trips to Scotland, the Philippines, Eastern Canada, the United States, and numerous fishing trips to Mackenzie, British Columbia. After Fred’s passing, Annie moved to Legacy Estates, a Seniors’ Condo in Red Deer, where she lived for twenty years. Needing more care, she then moved to Taylor View Towers in Red Deer, where she resided until her passing. The staff gave her exceptional care, keeping her as comfortable as possible. They will miss their ‘Mama’. Everyone who knew her will surely miss her smile, giggle, and warm conversations. You always felt so welcome in her presence. Annie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Velda), Bonnie Jean (Don), and Grant (Cathy); her nine grandchildren, Jason, Karene, Beverly, Garrett, Wendy, Rob, Lisa, Heidi and Ian; and her numerous great and great great grandchildren. Annie was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Stella Couchman in 1988; her husband, Fred in 2000; her daughter, Myra in 2009; and her brother, Mike Couchman..
