Red Deer community organizations get multi-year funding for upcoming projects

Dec 20, 2023 | 1:21 PM

Five Red Deer agencies are to receive multi-year funding through the City’s Community Culture Development Fund (CCDF) – Culture Development Category.

The City explains that the CCDF has provided financial support to not-for-profit organizations delivering arts, culture, and heritage initiatives in our community since 2000.

Grant funds are meant to assist organizations in capacity-building which will allow them to provide a service, manage a cultural facility, act as an umbrella organization for other cultural organizations, develop new cultural programs and services, and/or produce a community-based special event or festival.

“New books for school children, theatre collaborations, choir programs, Indigenous connections, and an update to the Museum + Art Gallery are some of the initiatives our community can benefit from as a result of this program,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Community Development Superintendent. “The City of Red Deer is proud to support these organizations in reaching their goals and improving quality of life for Red Deerians.”

The following organizations were each awarded up to two-years of funding, for the remainder of the 2023-2025 funding period, and for a total of $96,450:

  • Central Alberta Historical Society – $8,000 in 2024, produce draft, illustrated versions of four Kerry Wood books for elementary school readers
  • Red Deer Arts Council – $16,000 in each 2024 and 2025, Red Deer Theatre collaboration cooperative marketing and development program
  • Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) – $14,200 in 2024, re-imagining the MAG Phase 4: launch of new identity and direction
  • Red Deer Symphony Orchestra Association (RDSO) – $15,000 in each 2024 and 2025, Choir Kids – expand Red Deer school choirs’ access to workshops and performances with RDSO
  • Sustainable Red Deer Society (o/a ReThink Red Deer) – $12,250 in 2025, Performer, elder and knowledge keeper honoraria, re: Community Harvest Supper and related events

The next intake of CCDF applications will occur in 2025, for the 2026-2028 funding cycle.
