Mrs. Barbara Ann ‘Barb’ Macievich (nee Allan) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the age of 80 years. Barbara, also known as “Barb,” “Mum,” and “Granny” by those who cherished her, was born in England to Rosina Morgans and Canadian soldier, Leonard Allan. A war baby, Barb emigrated to Canada as a young girl, and settled in Grimsby, Ontario, where she spent many happy days with her beloved grandmother, Gladys, on the family farm. Barb was a life-long animal lover, and she tried valiantly as a child to save the farm’s cows and chickens from their inevitable fate.
A kind and gentle soul, Barbara freely shared many memories of her childhood with those closest to her. She told stories about her dog, Judy, of learning to swim in chilly Lake Ontario, and how she begged her mother to make tomato sandwiches for breakfast. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a gift for making newcomers to the family feel special, welcome, and loved.
Remembering and loving her forever are her children, Sandra (Michael), Stanley (Marian), and Christopher, Taralyn, her grandchildren, Krista (Daniel), David (Corey), Maxwell, Cassandra, Jeannine, Chelsey, James, and Lydia, and her great grandchildren, Penelope, Leuca, Cheryl, and Juniper.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Alexander “Sandy” Macievich, and, sadly, her daughter, Cheryl and her son-in-law, Bruce.
At Barb’s request, no service will be held. If you wish to honour this special mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, please give generously to the Animal Charity of your choice.
