Mr. Jens Kaastrup of Red Deer County, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Jens was born on November 17, 1930 at Selde, Denmark, the second youngest of twelve children to Soren and Johanne (nee Assersen) Kaastrup. Jens married Anna Sorensen-Orum and they moved to Alberta in 1957. He received his Journeyman Butter Maker Education in Denmark, and was employed at Alpha Dairies in Red Deer from 1957 – 1993. He won multiple First in Class Awards for Canada and Alberta. He was a member of the Red Deer Danish Canadian Club and Red Deer Chess Club. Jens enjoyed numerous sports and hobbies including camping, fishing, soccer, chess, handball, curling, table tennis, horse shoes, card playing, gardening, building houses, fixing and inventing machines, and he was a world traveler with Anna. He was a participant in Senior Games in both chess and table tennis, and was a member player at the Lakewood Golf Course, where he got his Hole-In-One. Jens was a strong presence and a very proud family man. He always enjoyed a good “discussion” and was also fondly known as “Dad Bedstefar”. Jens will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Kaastrup of Red Deer County; his children, Connie (Roger) Craig of Airdrie, Susan (Rocky) Jones of Red Deer, Fleming (Diana) Kaastrup of Westlock, and Mona (Dave) Pearson of Calgary; his grandchildren, Ian Craig of Airdrie, Dylan (Edith) Jones of Red Deer, Scott Pearson of Vancouver, British Columbia, Chelsey Jones of Red Deer, Nichole (Amar) Chahal of Airdrie, Kristen Kaastrup of Edmonton, Sarah Kaastrup of Edmonton, and Erika Pearson of Perth, Australia; and his three great grandchildren; as well as numerous family members and dear friends.
