Mr. Douglas Allan Phillips passed away with his family by his side in Olds, Alberta on December 9, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Doug was born March 19, 1935, he was the eldest of three children born to Allan and Isabelle Phillips. His father operated a Hardware store which he later took over the operations. He married his high school sweetheart, and they welcomed five children into the world over a span of twelve years. He expanded the hardware to include a lumber yard, sold grain bins, gas pumps and bulk fuel sales, among many other things. He was also a member of the Arrowwood Lions Club and a member of the local Volunteer Fire Department. In the mid-70s, Doug bought a hardware store in Innisfail, Alberta and relocated the family. He operated the hardware store for eleven years along with a small farming operation, and then in the mid-80’s Doug decided to sell and take up farming full time. He met many friends during his time as the caretaker of Eastgate Mall which he did as well as his farming for a few years. After a stroke took the use of his left hand, farming became more difficult and he eventually moved into the Autumn Glen Lodge in Innisfail until his health dictated his move to a high care facility, Season’s Encore in Olds, Alberta until his passing. Doug is lovingly remembered by his five children, daughter, Trudy (Don) Leach, daughter, Nancy Crawford and partner, Jack Kinsella, son Graham Phillips and partner Brenda Reader, son Gary Phillips and son Rollin (Sharon) Phillips, as well as eight grandchildren, former wife and friend, Marvina Phillips and numerous nieces and nephews.
