Walter Edward Carruthers of Innisfail, Alberta passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the age of 80 years. Walter was born in Vulcan, Alberta to Roy and Audrey Carruthers on February 15, 1943. Walter grew up in a large family of four brothers and four sisters in Winfield, Alberta. He followed the love of his life, Shirley, to Calgary, Alberta and the two were married on August 4, 1973. Walter and Shirley had two children, Charmin and Lane. Walter was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Walter loved to camp with his family and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He made friends everywhere he went. Walter was known for his slight chuckle, mischievous smile, and his love for animals and nature. Walter retired from Custom Metal Contracting in 2008. In retirement, Walter could be found tending to his garden, fishing, hunting and baking with his wife, Shirley. Walter’s biggest joy in retirement was going to his grandson, Brody’s hockey games and being Hockey Pa. Walter has reunited with Shirley in Heaven, and will be missed by many. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Charmin (Chris) Carruthers of White Rock, British Columbia, his son, Lane Carruthers of Calgary, Alberta and his grandson, Brody Carruthers. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Carruthers on March 18, 2019. A Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 104, 1, 5108 – 49 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Walter’s honor may be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 104, Innisfail, Alberta.
