Dick (Richard) Carratt passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Red Deer Regional Hospital November 18 @ 11:11PM at the age of 88 years.
Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Vickie, of 67 years; his 5 children Victoria Dushanek, Linda (Steve) Boychuk, Loretta (Darrell) Fraser, Richard (Terri) Carratt, Brenda Carratt; his 12 grandchildren, his 23 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Dick was predeceased by his parents George & Isabelle Carratt, his sister Jean Jaremcio, and his nephew Brian Jaremcio.
Dick was born April 13, 1935 on the family homestead in Delburne, Alberta. He attended the Delburne School and farmed alongside his Dad until he went off to work on a seismic crew and then joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and trained as a paratrooper. He met and married the love of his life, Vickie Sorochan, in 1956. In spring of 1964 due to an accident Dick & Vickie packed up their 5 children and moved back home to Delburne where they bought some land and built their own family farm where he lived until his passing. Dick & Vickie were blessed to have a second home in Apache Junction, Arizona where they wintered together for 38 years. His true love and dedication though was always as a lifelong farmer.
For all who knew Dick, knew him as a man who carried great pride and wanted the best for his family. He was strong-willed, stern, and tailored man but loving in his own way. He loved Lincoln cars and traveling, golfing, carpentry, visiting with friends and strangers alike, telling jokes, teasing and giving advice.
Dick was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Freemason, Alberta Wheat Board Member, and on the Road Haven Golf Committee.
A Celebration of Life will be held December 10, 2023 @ 2PM at the Delburne Community Hall, 2034-21 Ave, Delburne, AB
