Mrs. Mary Brauen passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the
age of 88 years. Mary was born on August 5, 1935, the youngest child of August and Elsa Jendrasheske, and grew up on the family farm near MacNutt, Saskatchewan. She left her home in the mid-1950’s and found work through her sister in the Maternity Ward of a Winnipeg hospital. Winnipeg is where she met the love of her life, Ernest Brauen, on a blind date in 1956. Their devoted sixty-five year marriage began the following year in MacNutt, Saskatchewan. They had three sons, Rick, Terry and Glenn. Mary took great pride in family and devoted her life to that, working as a homemaker while the boys were young, and working several careers outside of the home as her military family was stationed in Portage La Prairie, France, Cold Lake, Winnipeg, Summerside and Penhold. Mary enjoyed reading, travelling, and camping, and is remembered by her sons as a patient and supportive mother, who set a high standard and led by example – and who also was a wonderful cook. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rick (Lori), Terry (Joan MacRae), and Glenn (Lydia Asmus), her six grandchildren, and her five great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her siblings, Martha Osmak, Roman Jendrasheske (Frances) and her sister-in-law, Gilly Jendrasheske. On Ernie’s side, she will be sadly missed by Ernie’s siblings, Ruby Brauen, Fred Brauen (Mary), Phil Brauen (Wendy), Sharon Robinson (Dean), Ken Brauen (Doreen), Paul Brauen (Darlene), Joe Brauen (Rose), and her sisters-in-law, Elva Brauen and Valerie Brauen. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernie in 2021, and her siblings, Robert, Frank Jendrasheske (Luella), Carl Jendrasheske (Selma), Otto Jendrasheske (Emmie), Irma Falkenberg (Rudolph), Leona Falkenberg (Alex), Agnes Jarmuske (Albert), Ervin Jendrasheske and her brother-in-law, Joe Osmak. On Ernie’s side, Mary was predeceased by his siblings, Faythe Colbert (Peter), Dan Brauen, Dave Brauen, Elizabeth Cannom and Miriam Neale (George). A Funeral Service will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Mary’s honour may be made directly to the Concordia Lutheran Seminary at www.concordiasem.ab.ca; to the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 0G2 or to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
