Mrs. Myrna Marie Lundgren, a beloved resident of Kevisville and Bowden, Alberta, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023, at the age of 85 years, at the Innisfail Health Care Centre with family at her side. She was born on June 25, 1938, in Pincher Creek, Alberta, to Earl and Edna Matthews. Myrna grew up in Claresholm and cherished the memories of her dear friends, particularly her close bond with Dreena. After completing her education, Myrna relocated to Innisfail, where she found her passion working at Mr. Paige’s Law Office. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there and spoke fondly of the experiences and connections she made during her career. Later, after starting her family, she worked in Innisfail as a telephone operator. She really enjoyed the work and made lifelong friends while she was there.
Myrna had a love for dancing, often attending community dances with her friends. It was at one of these dances where she met the love of her life, a dashing young man named Ken Lundgren. They exchanged vows and were united in marriage on June 2, 1962. Together, Myrna and Ken built a beautiful life on the Lundgren homestead in Kevisville, which they took great pride in. Family was a cornerstone of Myrna’s life, and she was blessed with four wonderful children: Roger, Norman, Darcy, and Karen. She cherished each moment spent with her children and took great joy in watching them grow and thrive. Her favourite times were spent with her family making great meals and having many laughs and making great memories. Myrna was an avid volunteer and was part of the Kevisville Ladies group and the Kevisville Church board; she was on the board of the Red Raven Surface Rights Protective Association for many years; and as with Lundgren tradition, helped Ken in caring for the Kevisville Cemetery which had been passed onto him from many generations of Lundgrens before. She also volunteered on the Bowden Library board when she first came to Bowden. Myrna loved crafts and took many courses over the years which included everything from pottery to quilting. She loved to try new things and was a wealth of knowledge.
Myrna is survived by her children Norman (Donna), Darcy (Greg) and Karen (Mike); daughter-in-law Kim, her sister Elaine Thompson, brother Gary Matthews as well as twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews as well as dear friends and neighbor’s.
Myrna is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Edna Matthews; husband Ken, son Roger, brother-in-law Oscar Thompson; sister-in-law Darlene Bryan, nephew Dallas Bryan, grandson Kyle White, as well as many aunts, uncles and friends.
Myrna will be deeply missed by her children, extended family, and friends. Her warm smile, kind heart, and loving nature will forever be remembered. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that her legacy lives on through the lives she touched. Myrna chose not to have a funeral and the family will gather for a private interment at the Kevisville Cemetery on Monday, November 27, 2023.
