Lynn passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in the company of his loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on June 23, 1941 in Hamiota, Manitoba. He left home in July, 1961 to join the RCMP.
After a brief posting in Toronto, he applied for a transfer to the Northwest Territories/Yukon – where he served in six different detachments, for the next sixteen years. Lynn had a sincere attachment to the north and the communities that he served. He met the love of his life, Lorraine, in Fort Smith, N.W.T. and together they shared many wonderful experiences during their time in the “far north”. Their daughter, Shawna was born in Whitehorse, and their son, Darren, followed three years later while they were living in Yellowknife.
After leaving the North, the family was posted to Peace River and then Red Deer, where Lynn chose to retire in1995.
In retirement, Lynn and Lorraine loved to travel and ventured to many countries in Europe, Middle East, China, Mexico, etc. He loved camping and shared many campfires with his family and the local Waskasoo Roamers RV Club. He had many treasured memories from these outings.
Sports always played a major role in Lynn’s life, regardless of where he was living. Being an avid hockey fan, he coached minor hockey for a number of years. His Peace River Bantam Team won a Provincial Championship. An ardent Edmonton Oilers and Red Deer Rebels fan, he spent many hours cheering for both. He was also a dedicated Toronto Blue Jays fan. While posted in Old Crow, YT, he raced the RCMP dog team in Whitehorse, where he was awarded as Grand Champion for the annual Sourdough Rendezvous Dog Sled Races.
Foremost in his life was the love that he had for his family. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Lorraine; daughter, Shawna (John); son, Darren (Pauline); grandchildren, Davin (Tina), Logan, Ryan, Eric, and Tayler; great grandchildren Damien and Tamia; sisters Lois (Bill) and Louise.
Lynn made friends wherever he ventured. He was a kind man and we could count on him to lend a hand whenever the need arose. Lynn’s sense of humour and hearty laugh will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
