Clothing drive taking donations with event planned Dec. 9

Nov 22, 2023 | 1:40 PM

A downtown Red Deer church is collecting warm clothing for those in need.

Trinity Church, also known as The Centre, is calling it Wrap Up Red Deer, and are encouraging people to donate new or gently used winter clothing for the final giveaway on Dec. 9.

Lead Elder Dave Betts says the church just wants to do its part.

“We’re really passionate about serving the community somehow, and have been trying to find the right way to do it. One of the big needs is for newcomers to Canada, as well as people are the streets, all of whom we don’t want to struggle through the winter,” says Betts.

“That’s why we’re trying to get as many people as possible to collect clothes and then give it all away. We want people to know they’re supported, looked after and thought about this year.”

Betts clarifies that anyone “in need” is invited to pick up clothing.

Donations can be brought to The Centre (5301 50 Avenue) on Monday and Tuesday from 2-6 p.m., Wednesday from 5-9 p.m., or on Sunday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

They can also be brought to GB Music & Sound above The Centre any day, or email info@trinityreddeer.ca to arrange a drop-off.

The event itself is happening Dec. 9, from 3-9 p.m. All clothing items will be free, and there will also be hot chocolate.
