Lois Anne Simpson passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the age of 94 years.
Lois was born in Innisfail, Alberta, in 1929 to Bert and Elsie Gillette. She grew up on the family homestead west of Penhold, Alberta, where she gained many of her finest attributes including resourcefulness, resilience, and teamwork.
Lois met her husband, Stan, on a blind date and their romance led to marriage, in 1956. In 1963, they moved to Fort Frances, Ontario, but returned to Alberta, settling in Red Deer, in 1968. They were happily married for fifty-eight years, until Stan passed away in 2014.
Lois was extremely creative and had a great sense of humour. She remained curious all her life, always willing to “have a go” at a new activity. Lois had a wide array of passions, including sewing, golf, painting, crossword puzzles, bird watching, Bridge, and Wine Club with her girlfriends. She cherished playing Scrabble and card games with her grandkids. Lois enjoyed travelling with family and friends, and she had a deep love and appreciation of nature.
Lois will be lovingly remembered by her son, Bernie (Julie), her daughter, Wendy (Geoff), her grandchildren, Paul (Lisa), Kelly (Neil), and Josh, Ben (Kate), and Riley, and her great grandchildren, Taleen, Fergus, Francis, and Olivia.
Lois was the last of the Penhold Gillette clan. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, her brothers, Bud Gillette, Ken Gillette, Wayne Gillette and Lloyd Gillette, and her sisters, Dorothy Silverberg, Jean Gillette, and Peggy Evans.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all the wonderful care by the doctors, nurses and staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
