Alberta RCMP Auto theft Unit investigates stolen Ford Raptors

Oct 24, 2023 | 1:38 PM

The Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit is warning the public after investigating three separate cases where Ford Raptor pickup trucks were stolen, provided a new Vehicle Identification Number, and sold online or by roadside private sales to unsuspecting victims.

In all cases, according to Mounties, the purchasers stated they completed Lien checks, Carfax, or Carproof checks which were unable to inform the purchaser that the vehicle was re-vinned.

Police say these victims were located in both the Calgary and Edmonton areas.

The value of each of these vehicles is $80,000.

While RCMP investigate these crimes, they are asking individuals who are privately purchasing a vehicle to take extra precautions including:

  • Ask for identification from the seller
  • Buy used cars from reputable dealers
  • If the price of the vehicle seems to good to be true, it probably is
  • If anything feels off about the seller including cash only deals, wanting to meet at odd locations or times, be prepared to walk away.

If you have information about this incident or similar crimes, please call your local police. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), by internet at www.tipsubmit.com, or by SMS (check your local Crime Stoppers www.crimestoppers.ab.ca for instructions).
