OBITUARY OF KEVIN LEE HESTERMAN

Kevin Lee Hesterman passed away at the age of 48 on October 19, 2023 in the Red Deer Hospital after a valiant two year battle with Brain Cancer.

He was born in Saskatoon and raised in Regina and took his optometry training in Waterloo, Ontario. He resided in Red Deer, Alberta for the last 23 years of his life. Kevin is mourned by his loving wife Rhonda, daughter Mya, and sons Cameron and Finley, parents Larry and Pat, brothers Chris and Kent (Leanne), parents-in-law Ron and Lynn Scott, sister in law Deanna Scott (Erik Sund). He was an uncle to Alex, Drew, Kate, Lukas, Emily, Kai and Parx. He is also mourned by many cousins, aunts and uncles, extended family and a wide circle of friends and colleagues.

Kevin was a dynamic, charismatic and caring person, both in his personal and professional life. His life long goal of becoming an optometrist was fulfilled in 2000, when he joined the Red Deer Eye Care practice. He became a managing partner soon after, at the three offices of Red Deer, Rimbey and Rocky Mountain House. Kevin always had a tremendous sense of pride and joy while working.

He was very active in the triathlon community with his coaching, competing and the mentoring of young athletes. He loved the early morning spin classes, swimming, and his road and mountain bicycling as well as running. In earlier years he was a cross country runner, which transitioned into competing at a high level in many triathlons, adventure races, and road races. He was able to qualify for the 2020 World triathlon championships, which was his ultimate goal.

His family was paramount to him as they took a year’s leave to travel around the world instilling a sense of adventure and curiosity of new places. This trip became a blessing, as shortly after returning he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Despite this, Kevin never wavered in his determination and positivity in beating cancer. He worked hard while keeping his family active and even returned to work for a time.

Kevin’s Celebration of Life Ceremony will be hosted at the Harvest Centre, 4847A, 19 Street, Red Deer, Alberta. Join us in the Marquis room on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a Cancer Charity of your preference
