Mrs. Lorene (Rene) Donhauser passed away with her family by her side at Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the age of 88 years. Lorene is lovingly survived by the love of her life, Pius Donhauser. They were married June 29, 1974 and combined their beautiful family together with eight children, Patricia Turner, Robert Turner, Gale (Ernie) Kirkham (nee Turner), Rhonda Morison (nee Turner), Jeffrey Turner, Rick (Ann) Donhauser, Terry (Rose) Donhauser, and Garth (Gail) Donhauser. She is also lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren: Marissa, Mark, Randy, Daryl, Colton, Connor, Taylor, Megan and seven great grandchildren. Lorene was born at home on the farm in Acme, Alberta on September 25,1934. She was the youngest of seven children and the beloved daughter of Katherine (Katie) Schleppe (nee Schwartzenberger) and Valentine Schleppe. Lorene is predeceased by her parents Katherine and Valentine and siblings, Joseph, Catherine, Clarence, Clara and Raymond and is survived by her sister Elnora. Lorene welcomed everyone into her home, the coffee pot was always on. She was kind and loving and cared deeply about her family and her friends. She always had time to listen, make you smile, and she loved to laugh. Lorene was a happy, positive, selfless, gentle, humorous, strong, hardworking, wise and courageous woman. As an avid horse person, she rode competitive trail, taught dressage and enjoyed pleasure riding with her girlfriend’s Fern and Marg. She trained racehorses on her half mile racetrack outback. Lorene and Pius put a lot of time and effort into doing trail rides for cancer research and fundraising. Lorene had a green thumb; her flowers were stunning and she loved spending time in her beautiful rock garden and enjoyed watching the Purple Martins nesting and returning each year to their many bird houses. This amazing woman created a balance in her hard-working life with her love of nature, animals, and family. She had many hobbies, one of which was painting beautiful acrylic and watercolor pieces. Clogging, square dancing, and playing darts with special friends Faye, Doreen, and Zel was always a great time, as well she also enjoyed crafting and teaching ceramics. We ALL loved her cooking, especially her butter horns, cinnamon buns and butter tarts!
