Melva Faye Rabel passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on September 19, 2023, after suffering a stroke. Melva was born Nov. 7, 1938, to Ludvik & Mildred Evang. She married Ed Rabel on August 11, 1956, and they led a busy life throughout their married years, moving 29 times, and she could name them all! After Ed’s passing Melva moved to Davenport Place in Red deer and that was to be her final move.
Melva loved square dancing, playing cards and visiting with friends. She was incredibly stubborn, quite often opinionated, but had a noticeably big heart as well as a great sense of humour. The last few years of her life were a struggle, dealing with memory issues, that according to her she didn’t have and so refused to see a doctor for. She saw a lot of changes in those years that were hard for her and scared her as well. She is now at peace and no longer afraid.
Melva was predeceased by her parents, Ludvik & Mildred, Husband Ed Rabel, and special friend Earl Stevens. She leaves behind her unofficially adopted daughter Heather (Wilf) Hanson, their children Dustin (Kristen), Tyler (My), Amanda (Bryan) as well as 2 Great Grandchildren Rogue & Morgan. Melva and Morgan had a very special bond. She also leaves behind her sister Joan (Don) Delafosse, their children Kathi, Donnie, Nancy, and their families, as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Special Thank you to her good friends Lief Hansen, Yvonne & Bryan Peebles, who were always there for her. And another special thank you to the Red Deer Regional Hospital emergency room & Unit 32. Their compassion and caring made Melva’s final days easier.
A come & go tea will be held Oct. 6, 1-3 pm, Davenport Place, 2300 Danielle Drive, Red Deer. If desired Memorial Contributions may be made to Red Deer Regional Hospital Unit 32 & emergency.
