Margaret Ellen (Peggy) Tyler, a beloved resident of Red Deer, Alberta, peacefully passed away on September 15, 2023, following a courageous battle with dementia.
Peggy was born on September 5, 1931, to Henry and Rosa Lawton in Peers, Alberta. Her formative years were spent on the family homestead in Hattenford, and she proudly graduated from Evansburg High School. Peggy’s thirst for knowledge led her to the University of Alberta, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education while dedicatedly working as a teacher.
On a serendipitous train journey, Peggy crossed paths with John Walter (Jack) Tyler, a telegrapher at a station. Their connection deepened, culminating in their joyful union in 1955, with Drayton Valley becoming their cherished home. The couple was blessed with three children, John, Dinene, and Alayne.
Peggy was a remarkable woman, juggling the roles of a devoted wife, nurturing mother, supportive sister, dedicated volunteer, diligent farmer, and passionate gardener. Her unwavering faith guided her as an active member of the Anglican Church, where she embraced the role of an Anglican Church Woman. Peggy also delighted in organizing family reunions, sharing her homegrown produce, honey, and eggs, and lending her time and energy to organizations such as Girl Guides, UNICEF, Red Cross, Drayton Valley Agricultural Society, and the Clothing Bank.
In their retirement years, Peggy and Jack found serenity in the Mill Bay community of British Columbia, where they forged cherished connections with their neighbors. However, with Jack’s health declining, they later relocated to Red Deer to be closer to family.
Peggy’s faith remained a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of All Saint’s Anglican Church in Drayton Valley and St. John’s Anglican Church in Cobble Hill, BC.
Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy, and her beloved husband, Jack. She is survived by her three loving children: John (Jane), Dinene, and Alayne (Lawrence) Farries, as well as her seven cherished grandchildren: Marilla, Nolan, Aaron, Seth, Paige, Orrin, and Hannah, along with her two great-grandchildren, Elias and Annika.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggy’s life will take place at St. Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church on September 28, 2023, at 1:00 PM. In honor of Peggy’s generous spirit and her commitment to aiding those in need, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation in her name to a charity of your choosing. Peggy’s legacy of compassion and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
