Innisfail opens doors to talk about the past and the future

Sep 17, 2023 | 2:50 PM

The Town of Innisfail is opening its doors to the public to share some of the highlights of the town’s 120 years since its incorporation on November 20, 1903.

In celebration of this milestone, The Innisfail & District Historical Society organized the Doors Open event, a community celebration open to local groups, organizations, and businesses. Members of the public can obtain a map from the Historical Village and can then collect stickers at each participating location.

The Town of Innisfail will participate in the Doors Open event by hosting an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the administrative offices located at 4943 – 53 Street in Innisfail.

When presented with this forum to engage the public, the Town enthusiastically embraced the opportunity. In addition to displaying historical documents and newspaper entries for the public to enjoy, the Town will also inform visitors about the work being done to develop a new Municipal Development Plan (MDP).

“We see this as a chance to talk to people about their vision for the future of Innisfail,” said Gordon Shaw, the Town of Innisfail’s manager of community development.

“This process allows residents to share their feelings about our community, and we can then use that input to help shape future development.”

As part of the MDP process, Town staff are reaching out to the public and gathering input through a survey. The survey will remain open until the end of October, at which point a draw will be made for a $300 gift card from the Innisfail Co-op Grocery Store. Each survey respondent will automatically be entered in the draw.

Members of the public can complete the survey by visiting www.innisfail.ca/imagineinnisfail.
