It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of Nicholas D’Costa. Nick passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the age of 21 years. Born and raised in Red Deer, Nick graduated as the Co-Valedictorian from Koinonia Christian School in 2020 and he was planning to attend his second year of the Business Administration Diploma program at Red Deer Polytechnic in the fall. He was known for his love of academics and achieving placement on the Dean’s Honour Roll at RDP.
Nick is survived by his loving mother Jackie (Trent Petrich), his two brothers Christopher and Michael, his father Joseph D’Costa (Leni), brothers Jaden, Noah, and Mark, and his Grandmother Clare D’Costa. As well, he is also survived by the Hogan Family Uncles Bernie (Jean), Carlyle (Yen), Byron, and John (Erika), and the D’Costa Family Aunt Daphne Willis (Graham), and Uncles Sonny D’Costa, Daryl Thompson (Karlene), and many cousins, friends, and neighbours. He was predeceased by his grandparents Elmer and Rhoda Hogan, grandfather Lawrence D’Costa, Aunt Susan Thompson and Uncle John D’Costa.
Nick was known for his love of war history and for being an active member of the Living Stones Church community. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, his quick wit, and epic birthday parties! Nick derived happiness from playing cards and video games with family and friends. Most importantly, he loved God, his family and friends, his mom’s cooking, and Montana’s Ribs. Nick always had a kind and tender heart, with an uplifting spirit towards others.
A viewing will take place at 7 pm Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the Eventide Funeral Home and the funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 8, 2023 at Living Stones Church officiated by Pastor Paul Vallee. In celebration of Nick’s life, we welcome you to wear something in a bright colour in tribute to Nick’s fondness of colourful t-shirts. In lieu of flowers, prayers and donations in memory of Nick may be made to Living Stones Church, Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre, The Autism Society of Central Alberta, or any charity or non-profit of your choosing. As we mourn his loss, we take comfort in God’s promise, as Nick said in his Co-Valedictorian address, “His love endures forever” (Psalm 136).
