It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, Leona Bernadette Glover (nee Vatrt) at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the age of 62 years. Leona was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 2, 1961. After moving to Red Deer, Alberta in 1991, Leona held a variety of positions before settling into a career as a Work Management Administrator at Nova Chemicals in Joffre. Like ripples in a pond, Leona’s social circles and friendships carried far and wide. She always looked forward to trips to Winnipeg, where she would catch up with her Oakbank/Springfield High School classmates. Neil and Wyatt’s baseball, curling, and football exploits were followed by, and always closely scrutinized, by Leona. These sports, along with Wyatt’s participation in the East Lacombe 4-H Club, produced life-long friendships that inspired many camping weekends and travel. Neil and Leona would celebrate the Celtic culture with regular treks to the Highland Games in Canmore. Their travels also included winter trips to Arizona and Mexico, as well as a free junket to New York City, courtesy of a local Radio Station contest. Of course, a happy place for Leona was Disneyland, in California. Leona was very knowledgeable and passionate about politics and sports – particularly the Winnipeg Jets; she shared her perspectives freely and often. Both Leona’s battles with cancer were met with grace, a great determination to survive, and a selfless love and care for her family and friends. Leona will be lovingly remembered by her husband of twenty-seven wonderful years, Neil and her loving son, Wyatt (Jenna). She will also be sadly missed by her mother, Patricia; her sisters, Terry, Laurie, Marion (Hank); her brothers, Louis (Shayne) and Tom (Joanne); her sisters-in-law, Debbie (Murray) and Shauna (Wayne), and she was a favourite auntie to many nieces and nephews. Leona was predeceased by her father, Louis. Our family would like to thank the staff of Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for their compassion and care. At Leona’s request, no formal Funeral Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Leona’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Palliative Care Unit at www.rdrhfoundation.com or to the Red Deer Hospice at www.reddeerhospice.com.
