Reception Centre continues to welcome evacuees this week

Red Deer continues to welcome evacuees from the Northwest Territories at the GH Dawe Community Centre (6175 67 Street).

“The Reception Centre is where we register evacuees, provide lodging and meal vouchers, and to connect them with services they need while being away from home,” said Carol Lind, Emergency Management Coordinator. “So far we have registered approximately 800 individuals, and we have capacity to continue to accept new evacuees.”

As of 3 p.m. on August 21, the Reception Centre has:

• Welcomed 798 evacuees from the Northwest Territories.
• Partnered with 20 restaurants to provide 10,048 meal vouchers.
• Worked with 22 hotels to coordinate 3500 nights at hotels.
• Distributed 664 pounds of pet food for evacuated pets through the Central Alberta Humane Society.
