John Peter Priest (1932 – 2023)
John Peter Priest 90, “The Mayor of Chigwell” passed away in Red Deer
Alberta at RedDeer Regional Hospital on August 2nd 2023. Peter was born in
India on August 23rd 1932 to Zena and Archibald Priest.
Following in his Father’s footsteps, Peter joined the British Military and
served in Korea. After the military, he held numerous different jobs
including time with the Hudson’s Bay Company in Hay River Northwest
Territories. He eventually attended Brock University St Catherines,
Ontario and earned his Teaching Certificate.
Peter and Dorothy Robinson were married in Welland Ontario in 1976. He
finished his professional career as an English Teacher at Lindsay Thurber
High School in Red Deer. He later became an enthusiastic Gardener selling
his plants at Farmers’ Markets. Peter enjoyed reading history – especially
of Lacombe, listening to classical music and going to Motorcycle shows and
the Reynolds Museum. Peter also enjoyed talking to anyone, anywhere – in
grocery lines or at a more formal venue. In his younger years, he and
Dorothy travelled extensively to different parts of the world – Spain was
a favourite.
Peter is survived by Dorothy and her siblings Rick (Delores), Gary
(Jennifer (dec), Carol (Jack (dec), Pat and Cathy (Paul).
At Peter’s request, there will no memorial service. Cremation has already
taken place.
Memorial donations may be made in Peter’s name to the animal rescue
organisation of your choice.
