Local golfers competing at 2023 Alberta Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Several golfers from central Alberta are taking part this week in the 2023 Alberta Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship now underway at the Windermere Golf and Country Club in Edmonton.

According to officials with Alberta Golf, day one started with a rough forecast but settled in and ended in sunshine. Barrett Jarosch is one of four members of the Windermere Golf and Country Club competing on his home track and his experience showed. Jarosch posted 34 on the front nine with 2 birdies and only 1 bogey and birdied 3 holes on the back nine, hitting his approach long on 18 which led to a 3-putt bogey but the 2-under 69 has him in the lead with 2 rounds to play.

Central Alberta golfers include Ken Griffith from the Red Deer Golf & Country Club, who’s tied for 10th after shooting a 73 in the first round at +2, with Justin Butt from the Olds Golf Club tied for 48th after shooting a 79 in the first round at +8.

Ron Harder from Red Deer County is tied for 56th after shooting an 80 in the first round at + 9. Bobby McKinlay from the Lacombe Golf & Country Club is tied for 63rd after shooting an 81 in the first round at +10. Tim Hollman from the Olds Golf Club is tied for 101st after shooting an 87 in the first round at +16.
