Lawrence passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023 at his home at Michener Extendicare at the age of 68 years. Lawrence was born in Eckville, Alberta on January 15, 1955 to Bill and Hazel McDonell. He went to school in Eckville and graduated in 1973. Shortly after, he met Colleen Piller and they were married in 1976 and were married for nineteen years. They moved around with their young family, living everywhere from Okotoks to Saskatoon, before finally growing some roots in Stauffer, Alberta. They owned the Stauffer Store and sold it in 1984 before moving to the hopping metropolis south of Rocky Mountain House in the Dovercourt area. Lawrence worked for Speight Construction for many years and then moved on to Jo-Barb Construction. He tried his hand at working overseas in Sudan, Africa. He finally ended up at TNT Pipeline where he rounded out his career. With his larger-than-life personality and his ability to make you laugh, he made friends wherever he went. He loved wintering in the warmth of Mexico and worked in the heat of the summer in Alberta. He had his Mexico family that he loved to hang out with while he was there during the winter and Petro-Can for the coffee gossip for the other months of the year. Lawrence was hard working but also enjoyed his downtime of camping, fishing, golfing and quadding. But most of all he loved his grandkids and spending time with them. Lawrence is survived by his children, Angie Schroderus (Byrnie) and Dustin McDonell (Taren), his sister, Marilyn McDonell, his brothers, Brian McDonell (Michelle) and Clarence McDonell (Emy), his grandchildren, Rayce and Chance Schroderus and Olivia and Jack McDonell, his nieces and nephews, Sandra McDonell (Kathryn), Dwane McInnes (Crystal), Dylan McDonell (Aika) and so many more of his extended family and friends. Joan Swart, Janice Swart-McDonell, Anita Bauer, Carol Dressler and Stan Swart were so very dear to him as well as their littles and spouses. Lawrence will be desperately missed by many and those that had the pleasure of knowing him. A Celebration of Life for Lawrence will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Dovercourt Hall with a Luncheon to follow. Because Lawrence loved a great story and was a great storyteller, the theme for his Celebration of Life is “Do you remember when we…”. We ask that you bring your best stories to share with us all.
