It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mary Elizabeth Atcheson of Westerose, Alberta on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the age of 69 years. Mary was born in Calgary and raised in Rockyford, Alberta. Mary ventured out soon after graduating High School and lived in Hinton and Vernon for a number of years. Eventually, Mary and her two little daughters made their way back to Red Deer. While raising her girls she worked in the Hospitality Industry managing some amazing restaurants. One wonderful day, the stars aligned, and Mary met the love of her life, Brent. As their love story unfolded, they eventually married and settled into family life. After a number of years, the two of them accepted an opportunity to work at an outdoor adventure lodge in the Golden area, where they stayed for nine years before returning to Red Deer. Together, Mary and Brent built what she called their little piece of heaven at Westerose, Alberta where they eventually retired. Mary loved to help others and over the years hosted many dinners for the Ronald McDonald House and other charities near and dear to her heart. She was always willing to help in any way she could. Mary was known to many as ‘Mother Mary’ because of her caring ways and she touched many people’s lives. Besides travelling with Brent, family and friends, Mary had several hobbies that she loved to immerse herself into. Gardening, cooking and baking were her specialties and she was very creative and artistic, which shone through in whatever she did. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Brent Atcheson, her daughters, Tania (Richard) Murray of Amsterdam, and Kimberly McIntyre of Red Deer, her grandsons, Daegan Pobihushchy and Sterling Murray, her siblings Hans, Marlies (Glenn), Chris (Kathy), Val (Dave), Vince (Karilynn), her mother-in- law, Margaret, her sisters-in-law, Cindy and Debbie, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Maria Gerritsen.
