It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James (Jim) Edward Suart Phillips at the Olds Long-term Care on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Jim was in his 96th year.
Beloved husband and best friend of the Diane Phillips (nee Douglass). Married in 1951, together they were blessed with a full and vibrant 71 years of marriage.
Loving father of Noni (Ron) and Doug (Karen).
Proud grandfather to Cory (Lisa), Kristi (Parnell), Jennifer (Tyler), Stephen (Stefanie), Kate (Mike) and Sam.
“Old Papa” to many great grandchildren Amber (JW), Colten, Ryker, Tristan, Jordyn, Logan, Blake, Evan, Jack, Emily, Addie, Kellan & Bennett and two great-great granddaughters Hadleigh & Macy.
Jim will be fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many lifelong friends.
Born in New Westminster, B.C. to loving parents Vic & Myrle Phillips. As the only son he was doted on by big sister Myrle & watched out for little sister Nan.
Jim attended The University of British Columbia to study Commerce then joined his father working at the family-owned men’s attire store. After his marriage Jim joined the Simpson Sears Management team working across Canada from BC through the Maritimes. When the time was right, Jim retired back in Alberta to enjoy his golden years surrounded by his family.
While Jim was a very successful businessman, he also had a passion for working with his hands. He became an expert in everything he put his mind to. Whether it was restoring his 1957 MGA Roadster, that river cruiser, renovating family homes, fine wood finishing, knife making, or a host of other hobby pursuits Jim never sat idle and loved to keep busy.
Jim, Dad, Grandpa, Old Papa, will ALWAYS be remembered as a quiet and kind gentleman, a man with integrity and strength, a steadfast support and someone who does not appreciate being cut off in traffic!
Gone but not forgotten – we will see you again someday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Olds Long-term Care.
