Gordon Walter Inglis
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa, and Partner, Gord Inglis. Gord was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, on December 2nd, 1955, and passed away on May 27th, 2023, in the amazing care of the Red Deer Hospice.
Gord had a passion for life that was contagious to all that surrounded him. His outgoing expression and positive demeanour are among the many reasons people loved to be around him. He made sure to enjoy all that life had to offer, but his greatest joy has always been spending time with his kids and in recent years his two granddaughters. Gord was blessed to have a wonderful partner and support in Doris. They shared a deep love and connection until the very end.
His dedication to his career as a college professor allowed him to create authentic and meaningful connections with his colleagues and students. For over 40 years, Gord did the small things daily to make the biggest difference in his students’ lives.
Gord’s passion did not stop at his work; his love and engagement for growing sport was a driving force in his life. Gord was a pillar in developing the Alberta Sport Development Centre (ASDC). He loved tennis. He had a major and lasting impact on the Red Deer Tennis Club, and Court 6 is now dedicated as the “Gord Inglis Court.” He also loved the game of volleyball, which he passed down to his kids. Gord was the head coach at Red Deer College for 14 years and continued coaching at Camosun College for nearly a decade. He made a lasting impact on all that were lucky to call him coach.
Gord was a lifelong learner, a master planner and was never one to waste a day.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ellen, and father, Walter. Gord is survived by his partner Doris; his three children, Kris (Kirsten), Jana (Aleks), and Andrew; his grand-daughters Hazel and Lucy; and his siblings, Jean (Jim), John (Brenda), and Sue (Cindy).
As a man of faith, it brings us peace knowing he is with our Heavenly Father. A celebration of life will be held at Red Deer Polytechnic in the Cenovus Energy Common on Tuesday, June 6th at 2:00 pm. All are welcome. Please find the link below to livestream the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made on Gord’s behalf to the Red Deer Tennis Club’s Junior Tennis program by sending an e-transferring to gordsmemorial55@gmail.com.
